I stayed for one night on business, though I wish I could stay longer.
The hotel, it's grounds, service and room were all excellent.
The room was very reasonably priced, the restaurant was a tad expensive but in my opinion quality was deserving of the price tag.
All in all, should I find myself on a driving tour near Bath I will absolutely be staying here again.
Rooms: I stayed in a basic single room which had all the amenities you'd expect and despite some preconceptions I had about staying in a old farmhouse - my expectations were exceeded as the room had a large smart TV I could sync with my phone to watch YouTube on. The shower pressure and temperature were both excellent.
Walkability: Walkability was a bit of a challenge as it was quite far from my bus stop, and is up a short unlit country lane with no footpath, but certainly not unmanageable.
Driving is probably recommended and there seemed to be ample parking and electric car charging facilities.
Food & drinks: I was very impressed with the restaurant. I treated myself to a three course meal.
Fried chili squid - Crisp tasty, *not* rubbery at all, served with lovely vinaigrette.
Fish and chips - Delicious, tasted fresh.
Apple Tart - Was also very nice.
Noteworthy details: If you have the time, definitely go for a wander around the gardens they are very well kept and quite serene especially to a city dweller like myself.
Take a read of the history as provided in a booklet in the room, fascinating.
The buildings themselves are just very aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.
There's plenty of interesting artworks hung up everywhere and nice lounge spaces - explore if you have the time and inclination.

Room dirty and without light in the bathroom.
Hospitality nil.
Menu expensive and with pub quality.
They made me pay £15 to charge my EV and they even didn’t turn on the charger. When I asked for the refund, Sarah, the manager, said “by policy we don’t switch on chargers overnight” …but they billed me and didn’t even propose refund.
Avoid it!!!

Would give 0 stars if poss
The only pleasure here was the hotel room which was clean & warm
The main hotel was freezing cold no fires lit people were sat in their coats !!
The service from Sarah who called herself the Manager was appalling..the food was even worse , over cooked Turkey with everything else raw
served on cold plates you couldn’t eat it
Our meal was booked for 8pm we still hadn’t had drinks order taken by 9pm
food arrived around 9.45pm along with our drinks
We would never ever come here again we travelled from Worcestershire
if it wasn’t for our room which was warm we would’ve definitely checked out
We booked this Hotel & paid in September last year for 9th Dec one of us was celebrating a special Birthday & another was celebrating getting over Cancer ..there was plenty time to get staff sorted for our party of 7
Would never recommend this Hotel & the horrible Manager who couldn’t care less
but you have a legally binding contract with me & this will get sorted by my Solicitor you’ve never replied to my email which is disgusting !!!
Rooms: Clean & warm
Food & drinks: Absolutely rubbish
Service appalling

We really enjoyed our stay! The hotel has fabulous grounds. We were lucky to witness to witness deer feeding in the gardens! The price was phenomenal which included breakfast.
We have just moved to the area and will be recommending our friends to stay over

Beautiful old place with nice gardens.
We stayed here during the christmas break, a few weeks before they canceld 2/3 of our nights, because of renovations, when we arrived for the nights we had left there the staff didnt know of any renovations.
When two people sleep on the bed it bends inwards, so it was not very comfortable.

this hotel was once the perfect getaway for us but sadly has gone right down hill with poor service and food to match.
the woman that runs the place [if thats what you call it] is not interested in giving good service and gets annoyed should you bring up any issues.
the carpets and chairs in the eating area are dirty and stained.
mold and dust in various areas of bedrooms.
4 star hotel? i think not, its a 1 star on a good day.
our friends and us have stayed a few times this year but will not be going anymore as this dire situation is unacceptable especially at their high prices.
i challenge anybody that leaves a good review of this dreadful place and have noticed some of these good reviews are left by people that have no real names.?
and if they over charge you for something, then consider it gone as they will come up with all sorts of lies to keep it.
i cannot see this farce going on for much longer and it must be on its way out.
dreadful place, stay away and find somewhere better and cheaper.

Went for Christmas dinner last year in a private room for 15 people and loved it..booked again this year and had a totally different expirience..
Having spent almost 1500 on the room and food you would expect decent service.... however it was non existent. We requested extra gravy when the mains came out and it didn't arrive until all the food was almost finished. At this price point and private room there should be dedicated service..
Food was still a decent standard although whoever said ok to the cured salmon starter being accompanied by a separate plate of coleslaw and raw pastry triangles needs a new career.
The worst part was that my 2 year old daughters meal was £50.00 for three courses. What 2 year old eats 3 courses. £50.00 is disgusting for a child of this age.
No table service.... had to go to the bar to order drinks.... which a lot of the time was unmanned..
When we raised a complaint the staff member was rude and evasive..
Shame that a once great establishment has gone so far down hill.

This is a follow on to my previous review. Despite contacting the General Manager with our list of complaints none of them were upheld. The Manager does not seem to understand the level of service customers should be given and just makes excuses. When we tried to escalate the complaint we were told there was no higher person we could speak to. It seems the owner either doesn't care, doesn't want to be involved or is being protected so that he cannot hear the complaints. I have now found out his name is Walter Hungerford. Feel free to contact him directly, you won't get any joy out of the manager.
Noteworthy details: Very short staffed. Very cold. No atmosphere. Poor service. Poor attitude.

This is a follow up to my review left on TripAdvisor last month regarding the dreadful treatment that we received on our last visit AND IT WILL BE THE LAST.
The main problem is that they take money out of your bank account for goods and services that you never had and you will never get it back and it does not matter how many phone calls you make (and most of the time no one answers) or emails.
We have sent a letter recorded delivery asking for an itemised bill regarding monies taken out of our bank but in typical guyers fashion - no response has been received and sadly it will cost us more to take legal action against this place.
Also ignore any good reviews you see hear as its all a farce as NO ONE gets good service from this place as no one knows how to treat guests.
And look at the names of these people leaving good reviews as most of them are just letters and numbers?
The best hotel in this area is the Limpley Stoke Hotel where there are staff who are very helpful and polite and go out of their way to ensure you have an enjoyable time and the food is great.
This is why this lovely place is now our destination when we want a short break.
Sadly I feel that I have no choice but to leave this review as they clearly cannot be bothered even to look into this matter.
If they carry on like this, then I cannot see it going on much longer.
