It's the little touches that make a huge difference. The room was extremely well laid out with everything you could want. It was one of the best hotels we have stayed in in the UK! Everyone was very helpful and welcoming Rooms: Best room we've stayed in in the UK Food & drinks: Very good selection and quality of food.

We have had many good meals at the Methuen Arms - sadly Sunday's lunch was not one of them. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt and should not have been served and the beef was overcooked and hard. We mentioned this to the lady who served us. A great shame for a hostel that prides itself on its Sunday roasts

Stayed here a few times for work and it’s always a pleasure to stay here. The Methuen is cosy, welcoming, and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The little touches, sleep spray, ear plugs and gorgeous toiletries make it special. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly, and the food is delicious. Highly recommend!

Beautiful, freshly prepared sandwiches and cream tea for 10 of us. It was after my father's cremation and I just wanted somewhere reliable and friendly. They are not the cheapest option, but in my opinion are the best.

Historic hotel, lovely room, comfortable bed, and roomy bathroom. Complimentary organic toiletries provided. The only thing that would improve it would be a wardrobe. The breakfast range is really good and the food was delicious.

We stayed at the Methuen Arms for a night on the way to south Wales. We were in room 2, which was extremely comfortable with lovely touches of complimentary bottle of no alchol and procescco (even if the bottle had already been half …

Food was excellent as always and service was really good. The baby changing facilities are currently located in the ladies bathroom and if every baby like mine is terrified of hand dryers it can be a really stressful experience. We also witnessed a father having to change their baby in their car boot due to the location of these changing facilities which doesn’t make it inclusive for everyone. A fabulous location to eat and drink, highly recommend however please think about alternative baby changing facility locations to have the all round experience for all.

Myself and my friend came here for dinner, and overall enjoyed ourselves but found the service hugely lacking. The food was absolutely delicious, although the vegan meal my friend had seemed very small compared to my meal. The desserts were to die for! Great wine/drinks selection. However, we felt very let down by the service. On arrival, there was no warm greeting from staff. Following this we were put on a corner table in one of the back restaurant rooms, which was a beautiful room but as we were behind a wall it felt that we were largely forgotten about throughout our meal. It took a while for drinks orders to be taken (in the end we just ordered everything at once), and then the water we requested didn't come with the drinks, so we had to ask for it when our meals arrived. We asked for the bill, after trying to catch the attention of staff for quite a while to no avail, and then the bill still didn't come. Although they had time to stand and chat. So after sitting and waiting again we ended up going to find staff at the tills. The Methuen is great, and the food is always delicious. But this time the service just made the experience much less 'wow' and a bit more cold.

Excellent evening, all the staff were very accommodating. The evening meal was beautiful and the best mussels I have had in a long time. We had to leave early (prior to breakfast) and was most impressed with the breakfast take out bag provided. Will not hesitate staying again, thank you Rooms: Very spacious and clean

Excellent food and service in a hotel that still manages to have a traditional pub atmosphere. Room was good, and the welcome gifts made a positive impression. We were initially a bit worried about the Friday night drinkers noise, but it was very quiet from 11 and we got a good night's sleep.
